Tulip in the works.....

A tulip painting in acrylic on a 8 by 10 canvas.  I don't have a solid good photo of this, but I wanted to share where it standing at this point. I am happy with it, but struggled yesterday. I painted in a lot of informal foliage at the bottom yesterday and I painted it all out in black by late afternoon.
With any subject matter,  you have to learn how to visualize what you actually see.  I had to dig out a seed catalog and find some reference photo of actual tulip leaves. That did help a lot.  I will let it set over the weekend and go back in a fine tune it.

It's quite lovely, Larry. I love the variegated colors.

Those tulip leaves are very realistic Larry. I hope you two will have a very nice weekend.

Larry, I like it! The purple against the dark background is quite striking, and the leaves flow so gently. After this I have an urge to get out the paint brushes. ;)

The leaves look so real, I can almost feel them. I really like the varied colors you used in the tulip. Tulips are such a happy flower, one of the first signs of spring. Thank you for the happy thoughts today.

You know what? I don't think it needs anything more. I love the background, especially the very dark at the bottom right hand corner. It anchors it.

You are talented.

Thank you. I went in and cleaned it up a little but I did leave it alone. I am struggling to find a style so I am hitting all sorts of subject matter until I find my place in the world. The tulip is call a Rembrandt tulip which refers it similarity to his color schemes in his paintings.
